about

This track is the track. This is the best beat I’ve ever produced
in my opinion, ever. That Hoagy Carmichael sample (didn’t
realise he originally wrote “Georgia on my Mind”!) was found
during a sample trawling session, not expecting much from it
and damn, it’s just perfect. Coupled with a really decent break
I’d found from somewhere (producers rarely know the original
source of their drums) I think this track fully encapsulates the
vibe I wanted the album to have; cheeky, upbeat, positive and
a good tempo. I hadn’t got a clue what to write to this initially,
and freestyled to it not long after having made it and said the
immortal “rawwww I’ma give it to ya...” from Wu-Tang’s
“Da Mystery of Chessboxin’” for some reason, and by jove,
it just made sense to find out what the capital of Bolivia was.
Thus began a frantic hour or two of Googling loads of random
facts and trying to get the most interesting ones in and still
getting it to fit together nicely. I really like the fact they
aren’t related and jump back and forth, I spent a fair bit of
time trying to get correct pronunciations and asked a French
friend the best way to say “Francois Marin”. Then I showed a
Dominican friend the relevant bar and found I’d pronounced
“Dominica” wrong. Ah well. Bigup Phil!
